Lead Awareness
Prior to performing renovations or demolition, a survey must be conducted to determine the presence of lead-containing paint and finishes. If lead is present, further evaluation will be necessary to determine:
- the need for containment
- worker protection requirements (respiratory protection, air sampling, protective equipment, etc.)
- waste disposal procedures
Tasks which require further evaluation include: abrasive blasting, sanding, scraping, heat gun applications, power tool cleaning, welding, cutting, and demolition. Lead-bearing demolition waste and structural components such as doors, window frames, and other woodwork must be sampled representatively and the sample submitted for laboratory analysis (TLCP).
