Right to Know
Eye strain is common among those who work at VDT stations. Glare from indoor and outdoor lighting, and the intensity of the screen makes eyes tired and stressed. Tired eyes can be helped by eliminating screen glare by reducing room lighting, using light backgrounds on computer screens, and by taking frequent breaks and exercising your eyes. The following eye exercises will help reduce eye strain.
- Close your eyes and cover them with the palms of your hands. Rest your eyes in complete darkness for at least a minute.
- Roll your eyes, as if following the outline of an imaginary box.
- Change your focal point every twenty minutes. Take a break and stare at something in the distance for twenty seconds.
In addition, anyone who operates a computer regularly should get a complete eye exam. Even minor defects should be corrected with lenses designed specifically for computer use.back to EHS home page
