of our practicum sites involve our students in settings where there
is significant opportunity to work with individuals from ethnically
and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
TYPICAL PRACTICUM SITES:
Urban
district with over 15,600 students, 38% Latino, 12% African American.
The district's poverty rate, as determined by the number of children
qualifying for free or reduced lunches is 66% of enrollment. Nearly
90% of Latino students in the district live in poverty, compared
with 78% of African Americans.

mixed urban and suburban district with over 14,800 students. The
district has a diverse population that includes approximately 29%
Latino and 7% Black. The district's poverty rate, as determiined
by the number of children qualifying for free or reduced lunched
is 32% of enrollment.
Lehigh University, College of Education affiliated
school for students with severe emotional/behavior disorders.
207,000 pupils consisting of approximately 66% African American,
20%, White, 11% Hispanic, and 3% Asian American. An established
record of collaboration with health care centers to provide comprehensive
services to children within the city. Establishment of a Family
Resource Network involving clusters of schools that will link health,
mental health, child welfare and educational services within the
community school to provide comprehensive care to school children
and their families. Established links to Children's Seashore House
of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School within the schools
selected as practicum sites.
The Children's
Hospital of Philadelphia is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania
Schools of Medicine. The specialized care hospital has many important
treatment areas: biobehavioral, developmental disabilities, feeding,
musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation and respiratory
rehabilitation. Outpatient programs that provide comprehensive interdisciplinary
assessment and management include: applied behavior analysis, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, cerebral palsy, child development,
cochlear implant, Down syndrome, feeding program, neonatal follow-up,
neurorehabilitation and rheumatology. Staff includes professionals
from Audiology, Child Psychiatry, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics,
Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pediatric Psychology, Physiatry,
Physical Therapy, Social Work, Special Education, and Speech and
Language Pathology.
Infant and Pediatric Patient
Care Services include: adolescent
psychiatry services, child life program, labor and delivery, neonatal
intensive care unit level 3, neonatology/regional neonatal network,
newborn nursery. Outpatient
Pediatric Services include: allergy,
behavioral pediatrics, cardiology, endocrinology and genetics services,
neurolog, pulmonary medicine, rheumatology and surgery. In cooperation
with the Allentown School District, the Department of Pediatrics
provides instruction, intervention case management, and access to
health and community services for students at Central Elementary
School.
