The mission of the Counseling Psychology
program is to train counseling psychologists who will
emerge
as leaders within the scientist-practitioner model that
presumes skillful professional practice that is under
girded
by sound principles of psychological science. Graduates
of the program are expected to provide leadership to the
field and readily integrate theories of counesling within
a multicultural framework in the communities that they
serve.
As students, they will develop the skills to deliver counseling
services and provide psychological appraisal and assessment
that reflects an understanding of the client's social context
and interpersonal relationships with an emphasis on healthy
development and adjustment,to provide supervision and evaluation
of a broad array of scientifically-based and empirically
supported psychological and vocational interventions, and
to conduct, disseminate, and synthesize high quality psychological
research. A successful graduate may be employed in a wide
variety of settings and work as a practitioner, teacher,
and/or researcher while simultaneously serving as a liaison
for the profession through regional, national and/or international
leadership.
