Professor Alexander Doty specializes in film, popular culture, contemporary
theory, and lesbian, gay, and queer studies. He has written Making
Things Perfectly Queer: Interpreting Mass Culture (1993, Minnesota),
Flaming Classics: Queering the Film Canon (2000, Routledge),
and has co-edited Out in Culture: Gay, Lesbian and Queer
Essays on Popular Culture (1995, Duke). His essays have appeared
in Cinema Journal, Camera Obscura, Quarterly Review
of Film and Television, Social Text, and Wide Angle.
He is currently co-writing a book on the monstrous and the medieval
in film and literature. Courses he regularly teaches include "Gender
and Sexuality in
the Horror Film," "Feminist Film Theory and Criticism,"
"The Films of Alfred Hitchcock," and "The Monstrous
and the Medieval in Film."
