BACKGROUND:
IMPLICATIONS FOR MY PROJECT
The survey in this class seems to suggest that
- there should be a sizeable faculty audience for my work on this project
- not many faculty are extending discussion beyond one post
- the discussion board is mainly used to facilitate discussion in class rather than on the board itself
- thus, the discussion board is being used more as a bulletin board
- more teaching about how to post is necessary
- I will be advocating more use of the discussion board than common now
- students see room for improving current practice
- students highly value teachers who foster class interaction
- however, affirmation that other students play an important role in individual learning may be "lip-service"
- for community does not seem to be on student radar screens when asked to describe what college is like
- it is not clear that students are experiencing what I think of as a learning community
