Individual
Counseling/Psychotherapy
Individual counseling and psychotherapy sessions can be as varied as the
students who seek counseling. Sessions can range from dealing with
stress, to managing relationships, to overcoming an eating disorder. They
typically last 50 minutes, and students may be seen for a single session
or for a number of sessions.

Group
Psychotherapy
People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons. Many come because they
have problems establishing and maintaining close and gratifying
relationships with others. Often, they wish that they understood
relationships better and that they could be honest about their positive
and negative feelings with someone. In return, they would like honest
feedback. Group therapy attempts to set up a situation where this type of
honest, interpersonal exploration can occur. For more details on why
group therapy works, click here.

Couples
Counseling
Counseling is provided to students and their spouses or partners with
whom they are experiencing relationship difficulties.

Consultation
The UCPS staff offers consultative services to students, gryphons, hall
directors, faculty, and staff who seek guidance and support about how to
handle mental health crises and difficulties that arise with students
they are in contact with. We can also provide mediation between groups of
students.

Psychological
Testing
Occasionally the psychologists and counselors at the UCPS provide
psychological testing for students who are clients at the counseling
center. This is for the purpose of helping the counselor better
understand the student, and for the student to gain increased
self-knowledge.

Psychoeducational
Outreach Programs
The UCPS staff regularly presents programs and workshops, and leads
discussions about timely issues of interest to students on campus. These
programs are presented to students in their residence halls, fraternities
and sororities, classrooms, sports team meetings, club meetings, and to
the general campus population during special events. If you would like to
request a program please call the UCPS. Please request programs as far in
advance as you can, so the staff can have time to prepare.
