The morning started off well for the Mountain Hawks, as the Men’s Lightweight four and Novice four both rowed to victories. In the Men’s Varsity 8 race, Lehigh and Army separated themselves from Lafayette after about 500 meters. Army did not sit idle for long however, and proceeded to take a boat-length lead on Lehigh for an 8 second win. Lehigh also raced two Men’s Novice 8 boats which both had decisive victories. The first Novice 8 finished 7 seconds ahead of Army and 30 seconds ahead of Lafayette while the second 8 won by 15 seconds over Army. The Women’s team was equally successful on Saturday. They kicked off racing with the Women’s Varsity 8. As in the Men’s race, Lehigh and Army both got off to quick starts and opened up on Lafayette early. In the second half, the Brown and White walked through Army’s boat and finished 5 seconds ahead. Lehigh also came in first in the Women’s second Varsity 8, and second Varsity 4 races. This advanced Lehigh directly to grand finals on Saturday where they place 4th overall behind Harvard (1st ), Wisconsin, and Georgia Tech. Members of the four were Stroke seat Matt Galuska, 3 seat Phil Bresnahan, 2 seat Todd Mickelson, and bow Jon Winter. The women’s eight race in the heat to a 5th place finish behind Princeton, Central Florida University, Wisconsin, and U Rhode Island Friday morning forcing them to row in repachages that evening. Placing fourth in the reps moved them to the second level finals. In the finals, Lehigh made a strong second half charge to move through Stanford and Ohio State and finish fourth in their final-(10th overall) The men’s pair, rowed by Andrew Younghein and Sam Anderson, finished 16th and the men’s freshmen eight finished 6th in their semifinal and did not advance to finals.
