Lehigh Crew raced hard this weekend at the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The annual, 2.5-mile head race brought Navy, Army, Lehigh, Delaware, Dowling, Temple, Loyola, Vassar, Rutgers, Penn, and more together in a battle against each other and the weather.
With gusting head winds and white caps Lehigh's varsity women placed eighth, just three seconds behind rival St. Joseph's. The JV women placed fourth in their event behind Army, Navy and Rutgers. The highlight of that race was walking through Temple as fans cheered from the tents just before the 1000 meter mark and then finishing 18 seconds ahead.
The Varsity men placed eleventh, just six seconds behind Temple. The JV men placed sixth behind the United States Merchant Marine Academy and just ahead of Army. The lightweight men placed 10 th .

| This past weekend marked the 40th year of the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. Lehigh entered three boats which competed on October 23rd and 24th. Due to rough conditions the race was shortened by almost fifteen hundred meters, starting across from the Riverside Boat Club, which made it a very fast paced and exciting race. The high point of the regatta for Lehigh was the varsity men’s 8 race. The men rowed strong the whole race, passing a strong Ithaca crew. The men finished nineteenth, just fifteen seconds off of St Joe’s the third place crew. Trinity College won the collegiate men’s race by more than ten seconds over the second place crew from Minerva. The strong race by the men secured them a guaranteed entry in next year’s Head of the Charles Regatta by placing within five percent of the winning time. This is a big step for the men’s team as guaranteeing an entry has never been accomplished by any men’s eight from Lehigh.
The varsity women’s eight raced on Sunday along with the varsity men in the collegiate eight events. The varsity women started their race strong, holding 15th place at the halfway point, but had some difficulties with an over-the-head crab in the second half of their race and finished with a disappointing thirty-sixth. Minerva Rowing Club won collegiate eight races for the women. The women’s second varsity 8 raced on Sunday in the women’s club eight category. They finished twenty-ninth of 37, with Lake Washington Rowing Association taking first place. The women raced hard and plan to use their finish in this race as a springboard for Saturday’s Head of the Schuylkill. For full results go to: notables women V8 |

The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta (HOSR) is always a very exciting race since it’s the last head race of the season. This year the course was raced down river which was a change from the previous year. Lehigh welcomes all our alumni to come back and race in the HOSR or just support everyone with their cheering. This year we had three alumni boats race and a great turn-out of support both from parents and alumni! The Novice Men raced well. The Novice Men A Boat finished with a time of 14:54.82 and came in 18 th place. The rest of the novice boats finished strongly with Novice Men B with a time of 15:21.44, 22 nd; Novice Men C with a time of 15:56.58, 28 th; and Novice Men D with a time of 16:28.75, 38 th. There were 47 boats who raced in the Novice Men’s Race. Princeton finished first with a time of 13:11.00. The Novice Women had a strong performance as well with Novice Women A’s boat finishing with a time of 17:34.13 putting them into thirtieth place. The Novice Women B’s boat finished just behind them with a time of 17:43.94 and thirty-second place. Fifty-one boats finished this race with Princeton finishing first with a time of 15:11.86. In the Men’s Club race, the Men’s Club A boat, the second varsity boat, finished with a time of 14:03.85 in fourteenth place. The Men’s Club B boat, the boat comprised of alumni, finished with a time of 15:14.13 which landed them into thirty-second place. Thirty-nine boats raced this race and the winner was the US Naval Academy with a time of 13:02.80. A Men’s Open Club Four also raced with a time of 16:47.53, they finished in twenty-fourth place out of thirty-three boats. In the Women’s Club race, the Women’s Club A boat finished just ahead of the young alumni boat with a time of 16:35.46 and twenty-sixth place. The Women’s Club B boat, the young alumni boat with seniors who graduated last year, finished twenty-seventh with a time of 16:35:97. The second alumni boat, Women’s Club C, finished thirty-six with a time of 17:48.37. The fastest out of thirty-nine boats in the race was the University of Louisville with a time of 15:30.37. The Women’s Club 4 raced with a time of 19:36.50 and finished twenty-six out of thirty-two. The Men’s Championship Eight had a hard race. They finished with a time 14:44.02 and twenty-four out of twenty-six place. Unfortunately, they had a large amount of leaves that became stuck in their skeg, which inhibited their ability to steer. They received an interference penalty which cost them even more time to a disappointing finish for something that was beyond their control. New York Athletic Club won the race with a time of 12:33.21. The Men’s Lightweight eight finished their race with a time of 14:40.73 putting them in eleventh place out of thirteen. The US Naval Academy Lightweights won the race with a time of 12:51.89. The Women’s Championship Eight had a great race finishing eighth. They finished with a time of 15:14.63 out of twenty-one crews. The University of Pennsylvania finished first with a time of 14:30.95. Lehigh Crew is using the next two weeks to gear up for the last race of the fall season and switch into sprint mode for the 2000 meter Frostbites Regatta.
