Directions to Capitol Classic
Washington, DC
1) In Baltimore, take I-95 south to I-495, the Washington beltway. Take I-495 east (toward Richmond/Annapolis) to I-295.Take I-295 south toward Washington.
2) After 2 or 3 miles there will be three exits is rapid succession. The first is East Capitol Street, the second is Pennsylvania Avenue, and the third is Howard Road. Take this third exit. At the bottom of the ramp, make a left onto Howard Road and go under I-295.
3) At the stoplight on the east side of I-295, make a left onto the ramp entering I-295 in the northbound direction. You have effectively made a U-turn.
4) As soon as the ramp enters I-295, there is an exit ramp for Downtown Washington/Navy Yard. Take this ramp. This immediately puts you on a bridge crossing the Anacostia River.
5) After crossing the river, stay to the left onto the Southeast/Southwest Freeway. This may also be marked "To I-395 North".
6) After 1/2 to 1 mile (and several exits), there will be an exit for Maine Avenue (the two right-hand lanes. Take this exit.
7) Maine Avenue will travel along side the Jefferson Memorial, which will be on the left. After the Memorial, the Street will bear left onto Independence Avenue, with the Mall on the right. When Independence Avenue reaches the river it bears to the right and becomes Rock Creek Parkway, with the Lincoln Memorial on the right.
8) Immediately after going under the end of Memorial Bridge (as it meets the Lincoln emorial), the Parkway bears left. Go straight. (Only traffic in the right-hand lane may go straight.)
9) After leaving the Parkway, move to the left-hand lane. After 1/4 to 1/2 mile (The Kennedy Center will be on the left.), the two left-hand lanes will button-hook to the left around a Howard Johnson's. As the end of the button-hook, take a right onto Virginia Avenue.
10) Immediately move into the left-hand lane. At the next light, Virginia Avenue dead-ends back into Rock Creek Parkway. From the left-hand lane only, traffic can cross the Parkway into the parking lot of Thompson Boat Center only when there is a full green light. If there is a green arrow only, do not attempt to cross the Parkway.

Take Route 22 (in either direction) to the Fullerton exit. Head south. You will go through about 5 signals and 3 stop signs (if memory serves the webmaster correctly). At Pump Place (traffic signal, park/statue on opposite left corner), turn left. This road leads you down to the boathouse.

Take the Northeast Extension north to I-80 west. I-80 west to Exit 30 (Route 15 South). Travel south on Rt. 15 for 7 miles. Make a left at the light onto Moore Ave. Davis Gymnasium will be on your left as you travel down Moore Ave. Mathewson-Memorial will be on your right.

Take the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike to exit 32 (Quakertown).
Turn left onto Route 663.
Follow Route 663 for 3.5 miles and turn left onto Route 309 in Quakertown.
Continue north on Route 309 to Center Valley and turn right onto Route 378 North.
Follow Route 378 over Southwest Mountain.
Halfway down the far side of Southwest Mountain, turn right at the second set of blinking yellow lights -onto Summit St.
Follow Summit Street to the end, and turn left onto Bodhead Ave.
Follow Brodhead Ave. for 500 feet, and turn right onto West Packer Avenue.
Follow West Packer Avenue for approximately ½ mile, and turn right onto Taylor Street.
Lower Grace Hall is the third building on the left, immediately following Taylor Gym.

Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, PA
From New York/New England: From southbound New Jersey Turnpike (NJTP) take exit 6 to Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276 West). Follow PA Turnpike to exit 25A (Mid County). Take this exit (keeping to the left) and follow signs to I-476 South (Chester). Travelers from Scranton: pick up I-476 at same exit from Route 9 South (PA Turnpike Northeast Extension.)
After toll, take I-476 South to exit 6 (junction with I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway). Take this exit and follow signs for Philadelphia. Now follow NORTHERN APPROACH directions below.
Travelers from Harrisburg on PA Turnpike East, take Exit 34 and transfer to I-76 East (Schuylkill Expressway.) Proceed towards Philadelphia, noting there is construction between Exits 29 and 31.
NORTHERN APPROACH: Take I-76 East to exit 32 (warning, this exit is on the left side of the road.) Take this exit and get into the LEFT lane as you go over the bridge across the Schuylkill River. Look for sign on left for Kelly Drive. The ramp will spiral downwards in a counter-clockwise direction and will merge you onto Kelly Drive, southbound (switch to right lane after merging at bottom of spiral). Consult the local area map for further directions.
From Washington, DC, Baltimore, Wilmington: Take I-95 North through Wilmington or I-495 North (Port of Wilmington) until it re-joins I-95 at the Delaware-Pennsylvania line. Continue north on I-95 to Exit 7 (marked I-476 Plymouth Meeting.) Instead of continuing north on I-95 past the airport and into central Philadelphia, consider taking I-476 (known as the "Blue Route") northwards to Exit 6, then I-76 East (Schuylkill Expressway.) Then follow NORTHERN APPROACH directions above. This route will be longer but possibly faster than the alternative, which is to follow I-95 to I-676 West (or Route 291 to I-76 West) into Philadelphia and pick up SOUTHERN APPROACH directions below.
From South Jersey: Via the Walt Whitman Bridge, take I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Exit 32. The follow SOUTHERN APPROACH directions below. Via the Ben Franklin Bridge, take I-676 West (cross-town expressway) to I-76 West (Schuylkill Expressway to Valley Forge) then follow SOUTHERN APPROACH directions below. Via the Betsy Ross Bridge, take I-95 South to I-676 West, to I-76 West (Schuylkill Expressway to Valley Forge) then follow SOUTHERN APPROACH directions below.
SOUTHERN APPROACH: Follow I-76 West towards Exit 32. As you approach Exit 34 (U.S. Route 1 North - Roosevelt Expressway) take care to be in the CENTER lanes (follow the sign to Valley Forge.) Do not be lured off to the right or the left, or you will miss Exit 32. After rounding a left curve, you will see the sign for Exit 32 (Kelly Drive/Ridge Avenue.) The exit will take you off to the right, but get into the left-most lane as you go over the bridge across the Schuylkill River. Look for sign on left for Kelly Drive. The ramp will spiral downwards in a counter-clockwise direction and will merge you onto Kelly Drive, southbound (move to right lane after merging at bottom of spiral). Consult the local area map for further directions.
Mass Pike to exit 18 East. exit 20 West, follow signs to Cambridge. Stay straight through several traffic lights and across the River Street Bridge. Once across the bridge, take a left onto Memorial Drive (there will be a Shell station and a Mobile station at the corners.) Stay on Memorial Drive for 1.6 miles at which point it will fork (near the Cambridge Boat Club.) Staying to the left, follow signs for Watertown/Newton. Proceed through the traffic light, and as you approach Eliot Bridge, follow signs for Boston/Newton. As you are crossing Eliot bridge stay to the right and an HOCR volunteer will meet your trailer and direct you to a parking space. It would be helpful to consult a parking map or course map to assist with directions.
SADL (Magazine Beach) - Same as above, expect go RIGHT onto Memorial Drive once you cross the River Street Bridge. Magazine Beach is located about 1/4 mile downstream of Riverside Boat Club, across from the large Shell sign.

From campus take 22-West to I-476 S to Philadelphia and South/East-West Turnpike, go 28 miles. Take the I-76 exit 16 to Philadelphia/Valley Forge, go 13 miles on I-76. Bear left at I-676 E/US-30 E and head toward Central Philadelphia. Take the exit to (I-676 E)/Ben Franklin Br (US-30 E). Bear right at N 6th St and then bear left into the I-676 E entry ramp to (I-95). Merge into I-676 E/US-30 E and bear left at I-676 S go 4 miles and continue on I-76 E. Take the US-130 S exit 1C to Brooklawn/Westville and continue on I-76 E for 1.4 miles. Continue on RT-42 S for 9.6 miles and then continue on Atlantic City Expy S for 13 miles. Continue on Atlantic City Expy E, go 27 miles and take the US-322/US-40 exit 2 to Atlantic City/Ventnor/Margate. From Connecticut, take the The Massachusetts Turnpike East. Get off at Interstate Route 290 East (Worcester). Get off at Exit 21 (Plantation St.). Turn right at the end of the ramp. Turn left onto North Road (between the Mercandante Funeral Home and UMass Medical Center). Proceed to Lake Ave and turn right. The park entrance is one hundred yards on the left.
Camden, NJ
309 south to 663 west to NE Ext south. NE extension to PA Turnpike to Valley Forge exit. From there, take I-76 (Schuylkill Expwy) east to Philly. Stay left after passing Girard Ave exit. Exit at I-676 (Vine St. Expwy) Follow signs to Franklin Bridge. Go straight ahead after the tollbooth to Admiral Wilson Blvd. Don't bear right onto I-676! Take left branch at top of overpass. After overpass, bear right onto NJ Rt. 70. Go left onto Cuthbert Blvd (first overpass on Rt. 70). At first light, turn right onto North Park Drive. The course is on the left side of North Park Drive.
Lewisburg, PA
Either: Route 22 east to 33 north. 33 north to I-80 West. Or: Route 22 west to NE Ext. NE Ext to I-80 West. This is 10 miles shorter, but has a $1.35/$2.00 (class 1/class 2) toll, each direction. Then: I-80 West to Route 15 South Stay on Route 15 until it intersects with Route 11 - Ted's Landing restaurant is on the left and K-Mart is on the right. Take a left at the light onto Route 11 and the boathouse will be on the right side. Trailers go right, vans go to Ted's Landing and park there.
Lake Nockamixon, PA
From Lehigh University:
1. Take 309 South to Quakertown.
2. Make a left on route 663 to route 313. 3. Turn onto route 563 make fourth right down to lake and picnic area.
From Easton, PA:
1. PA Route 611 South towards Doylestown/Philadelphia forapproximately 20 miles.
2. At Ford dealership, turn right on PA Route 412 towards Springtown for approximately 1/2 mile.
3. Turn left on PA Route 563 towards Nockamixon State Park.
4. Follow signs for the Tohickon boat launching area. Spectator parking is available here.
5. Rough conditions on the lake may force regattas to be held at the Haycock boat launching
area, located off 563 before the Tohickon boat launch.
There are two possible locations for the race depending on weather conditions. Both are accessible from 563 and will be
on the left side ofthe road.The first you will come to will be the Haycock public boat launch. This is the alternate site.
The next one you come to, the Tohickon public boat launch, is the preferred site. There are signs for both locations on 563.
We will try to have a sign out on race morning indicating where the event is.
