DIRECTOR OF ROWING, HEAD WOMEN'S COACH:

Liz Meltzer

Liz Meltzer has been announced as the new Head Coach in 2007-2008 under the title Steven J. ’69 and Karen Lee Head Crew Coach at Lehigh.

Liz joined the Mountain Hawks for the 2005-2006 season and brought with her a wealth of coaching experience at all levels. For the three years previous to her tenure at Lehigh, Meltzer was the Head Coach of the American University Crew in Washington D.C. While coaching in Washington, she also had the opportunity to coach DeMatha Catholic High School’s Freshman Men, Walter Johnson High School’s Varsity and Novice Teams and serve as an associate coach for the intermediate masters of the D.C. Strokes Rowing Club.

While under her leadership, the American University Crew won the 2003 Dad Vail Novice Lightweight 8 Championship Race, and had crews take first and second at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta as well as the Head of the Occoquan.

Meltzer attended The Johns Hopkins University where she was a four year letter winner and captain of the crew. She received her Masters Degree in Health Promotion Management in the summer of 2005 from the American University.

 

HEAD MEN'S COACH:

Jason Moorehead

Jason graduated in 1999 from Western Washington with a BA in Political Science. In both 1998 and 1999 his Varsity 8 Silver medaled at the West Coast Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships (WIRA's). In 1999 Jason was named to the All WCIRA team and finished his collegiate rowing career with a Bronze medal at the (IRA's) Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in the Varsity 4.

GRAD ASSISTANT MEN'S COACH, FRESHMEN MEN:

David S. Highhill

David Highhill has been with the Lehigh Rowing Team since he joined during the 2002 fall season where he coxed the Men's Varsity 8 from 2003 to 2006. Additionally, while on the team Highhill was a two-year Captain and President of the team. Last year Highhill served as the Men?s Junior Varsity and Lightweight Coach, leading the JV Men's Eight to Dad Vail Silver and the Light Eight to Murphy Cup Gold. Dave has also placed at USRowing Nationals (2nd and 3rd), Canadian Henley Regatta (2nd) and the Head of the Charles (1st). This year Highhill is completing his Masters degree in Psychology while serving as the Head Men's Novice Coach.

ASSITANT WOMEN'S COACH:

Denise Julian

Denise Julian has been a part of Lehigh Women’s Rowing Team since the fall of her freshman year in 2003; she rowed in the Women’s Varsity 8 for three years and as a senior was elected captain.  She was named to the All-Patriot League Team two years running (2006 and 2007) and was also awarded Most Valuable Rower by her teammates in 2007.  In addition to all of her accomplishments within Lehigh, for the last two summers she has been one of less than twenty collegiate women admitted to the well known and widely respected Vesper Elite Rowing Program.  As a member of the first eight and senior four, Denise competed in and won medals at the US Rowing National Championship and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.  Denise will be finishing her psychology degree this year while assisting Coach Meltzer with the Lehigh women’s rowing program.

Lauren Richter

Lauren Richter has been with the Lehigh Rowing Team since the fall of 2002 when she joined the freshman/novice team. While on the team, she was a member of the women’s lightweight 8 that competed in the IRA regatta in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and was a varsity letter winner her senior year. Last year, she was the Novice Men’s team assistant coach.


Lauren came to the Lehigh Rowing Team as a recruit from the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA, where she spent four years rowing on the varsity team. While at Shipley, she placed in the Stotesbury Regatta (third and fifth) and the high school Nationals (first) in the varsity lightweight four, and in the high school Sculling Championships (first) in the varsity lightweight single. This year, Lauren is completing her masters in elementary education while she assists the rowing coaches.

VOLUNTEER MEN'S COACH:

Mark Chandler

Mark Chandler has been with the Lehigh Rowing team since fall of 2003 when he joined as a walk-on. During his rowing career at Lehigh he competed in many regattas in the Men's Varsity eight, including the Dad Vail Regatta, the San Diego Crew Classic, the Head of the Charles Regatta, and the IRA Regatta in the four. He was also elected captain as well as equipment manager his senior year. Mark is a Presidential Scholar, spending a year taking classes to prepare for medical school, which he plans to attend next year. This year Mark will be assisting the novice coaches as well as organizing boathouse maintenance.

VOLUNTEER MEN'S COACH:

Cole Weidner

Coach Cole Weidner began his rowing career at Drexel University in 2002. He won his first two races which were the Frosbite Regatta and Bill Braxton Regatta. Later he rowed for the Penn AC Rowing Association in 2003 and he won a race there as well. He went on to row for Lehigh University from 2004 to 2005 and won a few races.Currently he is finishing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
