Timeline for 2010 Application Cycle

  1. October 2008: Attend Jr/Sr Information Session on Medical School Application (check DreamWeaver for date/times).

  2. October 2008---March 2009: Assess your status as a potential applicant. Determine how you will study for your entrance exam---and when you can take this exam with maximal preparation. Aim for a spring to early summer test. Register for admission test. When you take this exam, release your scores to your Pre-Professional Counselor.

  3. October 2008---May 29, 2009: Ask for letters of evaluation from professors. Fill out and submit to the Pre-Professional Counselor the Letters of Evaluation Requested form.

  4. December 2008---March 2009: Open your Pre-Professional File.

  5. January---March 31, 2009: After submission of your Pre-Professional Form, schedule interview with Pre-Professional Counselor.

  6. January---April 20, 2009: Schedule interview with assigned faculty member of the Health Professions Advisory Committee.

  7. April 2009: Attend Jr/Sr Information Session on Medical/Dental School Application (see DreamWeaver for date/times). Students interested in applying to one of the other health professions should make an appointment with the Pre-Professional Counselor (x83710).

  8. May 2009: Begin to fill out online application.

  9. June---August 2009: Submit application as early as possible. Remember that it can take from 4 to 6 weeks for your application to be verified by the application service before it is sent to the professional schools to which you are applying.

  10. June---August 2009: After you submit your application to the application service, submit to the Pre-Professional Counselor (a) a hard copy of that application, (b) the Request to Release Committee Letter form, and (c) a check for $25 made out to Lehigh University (for VirtualEvals---if you are applying to medical, podiatry, or optometry programs). These must be in your file in the Pre-Professional Counseling Office in order for your Committee Letter to be sent out to the schools to which you have applied.

  11. June---September 2009: Complete and submit any secondary applications you receive. If possible, return secondaries within 2 weeks.

  12. September 2009---March 2010: Professional schools start to evaluate applications in early September. Interviews are offered as applications are evaluated. Most medical schools end the interview process by March 31.

  13. October 2009---May 2010: Decisions. First acceptances are sent out on October 15 by medical schools that operate on a rolling basis. Check individual schools for decision notification procedures. Upon receipt of multiple acceptances, continue to hold the one or two (at most) schools in which you are most interested; withdraw from those others that you do not plan to attend, to open up places for others in your cohort.

  14. May 15, 2010: This is the last date to hold multiple acceptances for medical school.

  15. May 15---August 2010: Acceptances off the waiting list may take place during the summer.
