Nasdaq Visiting Scholar Program

With a grant from the Nasdaq Educational Foundation, in January 1999 the Center established the Nasdaq Visiting Scholar Program as the featured event of the S/EIR Program. Each semester, the Nasdaq Visiting Scholar Program brings to Lehigh an outstanding individual with wide experience in economic issues and a national or international reputation. The Nasdaq Visiting Scholars are on campus for two or three days during which time they give a major public address and participate in a variety of venues - classes, seminars, and small-group sessions. Undergraduates, MBA and PhD students, faculty, members of the local community, and business and community leaders have the chance to interact personally with people who are outstandingly successful in their careers.

The grant from Nasdaq has enabled the Center to attract world-class individuals to serve as Nasdaq Visiting Scholars. Dr. J. Fred Weston, Professor of Management Economics and Finance at UCLA's Anderson School; Dr. Dale Laurance, President of Occidental Petroleum; Dr. Ira Lieberman, Director of Small Business Operations at the World Bank; Scott MacDonald, Director of Business Development, Equity Markets at the Toronto Stock Exchange; Dr. Mark Perlman, University Professor Emeritus of Economics and Professor Emeritus of History and the Economics of Health Administration at the University of Pittsburgh; Dr. Kenneth French, NTU Professor of Finance at MIT's Sloan School of Management; and Dr. Roger "Cliff" Poole, Major General U.S. Army (Retired) and former Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College and Interim President, The Citadel, have served as Nasdaq Visiting Scholars.

Through this program, the Center is building a network of contacts for future collaborations with individuals who are leaders in their fields.
