The Scholar/Executive-in-Residence (S/EIR) Program has been a part of the Martindale Center since its inception in 1980. The program brings outstanding individuals from business and industry, government, and academe to interact with the University community and the community at large. This program is the primary means of increasing the human capital available to the Center by providing individuals who have expertise in areas not covered by regular faculty and who have extensive practical knowledge of issues impacting the economy.
The program has attracted a distinguished group of participants. In past years, the following individuals have participated in the program: Joseph Pechman, former Director of Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution; Herbert Stein, former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers and Fellow of the American Enterprise Institute; Rudolf Penna, former Director, Congressional Budget Office; Irving Kristol, Fellow of the American Enterprise Institute; John Hilley, former Director of Legal Affairs in the Clinton administration; Bernard Wysocki, Economics News Editor of The Wall Street Journal; Bill Hecht, CEO of Pennsylvania Power and Light Company; Dirk Junge, CEO, Pitcairn Trust Co.; and Rodolfo Segovia, President and CEO of Propileo S.A., Colombia
