Students from the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department Attend the 2014 Annual Women Engineering Conference

Six Chemical Engineering students-- seniors Sonali Shah, Luzmary Sabino, Ashely Daza, Juliana Telles and Meghan Duggan and junior Brittany Cutrona -- recently attended the annual meeting of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) that was held in Los Angeles during October 23-25. In addition students from the Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department also attended the conference.

The conference provided the Lehigh students with an opportunity to explore professional and career opportunities through discussions with other women engineers, recruiters and through panel discussions and lectures presented by international women leaders in engineering. The conference also included a full career fair, which provided further opportunities to network for full time jobs and internships in various engineering positions.

The Lehigh University Chapter of SWE currently has a substantial number of officers from the Chemical Engineering junior and senior class. Officers in SWE from Chemical Engineering include: Juliana Telles (President), Sonali Shah (Academic Chair), Meghan Duggan (Secretary), Ashely Daza (CHOICES Chair), and Brittany Cutrona (Activities Chair). The chapter dedicates its time to outreach to students ranging from elementary school to high school age groups, as well as on campus activities and discussions to allow the women engineers at Lehigh to connect and grow professionally.

On March 20th, SWE will hold their largest event on campus, C.H.O.I.C.E.S (Charting Horizons and Opportunities in Careers in Engineering and Science). The chapter will host middle school girls at Lehigh for a day full of fun engineering and science experiments designed to foster an interest in the future pursuit of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.
