Professor Israel Wachs receives Fulbright Senior Scholar Fellowship from the Fulbright Foundation

Dr. Israel Wachs, the G. Whitney Snyder Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholar Fellowship from the Fullbright Foundation to pursue research for at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (Haifa, Israel) during the 2018/2019 academic year. The basic purpose of the award is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Israel, through the exchange of students, teachers, lecturers and research scholars. The award is highly competitive and recognizes and supports leading scholars from USA to spend time in foreign countries to conduct research and teach. For Israel, only 8 Fulbright Fellowships are awarded annually covering all academic disciplines.

Professor Wachs will closely collaborate with Professors Gideon Grader and Oz Gazit from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Technion during his Fulbright Fellowship. The collaborative research activities will focus on energy related topics.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government through the USA Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright Program is active in more than 160 countries. More than 380,000 “Fulbrighters” have participated in the Program since its inception more than seventy years ago.

The Fulbright Program awards approximately 8,000 grants annually. The Fulbright U.S. Scholars Program sends American scholars, artists, faculty, and professionals abroad to lecture and/or conduct research. The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program also provides grants to approximately 900 foreign scholars from over 100 countries to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions. The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program sends teachers abroad for a semester to pursue individual projects, conduct research, and lead master classes or seminars. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study, conduct research, and/or teach English abroad.
