Dr. Vincent Grassi elected Fellow of the AIChE

Dr. Vince Grassi, Professor of Practice in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Fellow is AIChE's highest grade of membership and is achieved only by election by the AIChE Board of Directors, generally upon recommendation of the AIChE Admissions Committee through whom all nominations for election to Fellow are processed.

Election as Fellow is in recognition of “service to the profession” and “significant professional accomplishment” over an extended period (generally 25 years).

Dr. Grassi joined the department in January 2015 as a Professor of Practice and has been involved in enhancements to the capstone senior level two-semester process design course, in the Unit Operations laboratory and in developing professional skills for our students. He has also been actively seeking closer relationship with the global chemical industry, with AIChE, ABET and other professional organizations to further the dual mission of research and education for the department.

Dr. Grassi received his BS (1978) from the University of Rochester, and MS (1985) and PhD (1991) degrees from Lehigh University, all in Chemical Engineering. He was employed with Air Products & Chemical Inc. from 1978 to 2013 for a period of 35 years until his retirement in 2013, beginning as a Process Engineer and rising through the ranks and holding various leadership positions as Senior Engineering Manager of Process Modeling and Control, Director of Global Learning and Knowledge Management and most recently, Director Employee Development, Diversity and Inclusion. He was instrumental in creating a "Corporate University" at Air Products & Chemicals Inc. that developed best practices for knowledge transfer, idea management and collaboration to optimize global knowledge solutions for the company. Several of these initiatives were recognized by awards given by the company in the areas of outstanding process technology and global information technology.

Outside of Air Products, Dr. Grassi has held highly visible positions in the central operations of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), serving as Chair and Director of one of the divisions of AIChE, serving as the Co-Chair of the Annual Meetings of AIChE in 2007 and 2010 (a conference with over 6000 attendees), serving as the Executive Programming Board Chair in 2014, and currently, serving as a director on the Chemical Technology Operating Council.
