Lehigh Students Shine at Catalysis Club of Philadelphia Student Poster Competition

The Catalysis Club of Philadelphia held its annual student poster competition where graduate students from universities in the PA-DE-NJ area presented their catalysis research accomplishments. Over 30 student poster presentations were given from University of Pennsylvania, University of Delaware, Rutgers University and Lehigh University.

The poster presentation by Minghui Zhu, Lehigh graduate student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering under the supervision of Israel E. Wachs, G. Whitney Snyder Distinguished Professor, was selected as 2nd place. The title of the poster was “Promotion Mechanisms of Iron Oxide-based High Temperature Water Gas-Shift Catalysts by Chromium and Copper.” The 1st place poster presentation award to a student from University of Delaware, 3rd place poster presentation award was given to a student from Rutgers, and the 4th place award went to a student from University of Pennsylvania. The poster presentation by Ozgen Yalcin, Lehigh graduate student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering under the supervision of Israel E. Wachs, G. Whitney Snyder Distinguished Professor, received honorable mention. The title of the poster was “High Temperature Water Gas-Shift Reaction on Chromium-Iron Oxide Catalysts – A DFT Study.”

Other participating graduate students from Lehigh’s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering were Anisha Chakrabarti (supervised by Wachs), William Taifan (supervised by Jonas Baltrusaitis), Benjamin Moskowitz (supervised by Wachs), and Bin Li (co- supervised by Wachs and Baltrusaitis).
