Spring 2007 Symposium
New Perspectives on Global Value Chain Alignment
May 1-2, 2007
Rauch Business Center
Lehigh University
621 Taylor Street, Bethlehem, PA
Speakers and Abstracts:
- Cheryl Harrity (Former Practice Lead, Supply Chain, APQC; Principal, Supply Chain Visions), Applied Benchmarking for Aligning Strategy and Performance
Establishing and using key performance indicators (KPIs) is a critical business practice for aligning business strategy with performance. But this practice is worthless unless applied correctly. This eye-opening session provides insights into the two types of benchmarking techniques you should use (qualitative and quantitative), selecting the correct standard, and executing against these benchmarks to achieve real and sustainable performance improvements.
- Ken Colbert (Lehigh IE '77, Vice President of Logistics, Church & Dwight), Building a Global Supply Chain in a Growing Environment
This session discusses some of the issues and opportunities Church & Dwight (Arm & Hammer brand) has identified as they expand their global operations while providing the highest level of value to their customers. Equally important is not only the aspects of supply chain optimization, but the need for other departments to be fully engaged in global leverage and common platforms, such as R and D, quality, regulatory and environmental practices.
- Barry Brandman (President, Danbee Investigations), Adopting Global Security Best Practices
With global supply chains becoming a prime target for professional theft rings and terrorist cells, the risks are too high to rely on antiquated or cosmetic safeguards. In this session, participants heard from a security expert who has been actively engaged in conducting investigations and designing successful supply chain security programs for many of the top names in industry. They learned where the biggest vulnerabilities are as well as the essential components of an integrated and effective asset protection program.
- Robert Trent (Associate Professor of Management and Supply Chain Management Program Director, Lehigh University), Coordinating Global Supply Networks
This session highlights the value of globally coordinating a firm's diverse supply and operating locations. It also presents a set of factors that support worldwide coordination as well as a set of best practices that define companies that are at the top of their global game.
