Research and Scholarship
Dr. Pamukcu conducts research on soil and groundwater decontamination using electrochemical technologies, and on the application of fiber-optic and wireless sensors for distributed measurements in geo-media and civil infrastructure. An expert on electro-remediation of soils and groundwater for more than a decade, Dr. Pamukcu co-owns patents in the U.S. and abroad. She currently focuses on the application of direct current electric field for in-situ destruction of contaminants through enhanced redox in clay-rich soils. Her other work includes the application of distributed fiber-optic and wireless sensor networks for detection of soil water and contaminants, and infrastructure health monitoring in subsurface. Dr. Pamukcu has served as principal or co-principal investigator for more than 30 grants and contracts from national and state agencies, including the NSF, DOE, EPRI, and Pennsylvania DOT. She is the co-author of more than 60 peer–reviewed articles and more than 100 technical contributions in the form of conference proceedings, research reports and book chapters. Dr. Pamukcu is a past recipient of the ASCE Civil Engineering Foundation Grant Award and the Alfred Noble Robinson Award conferred by Lehigh University. From 2000-01 she served as the Lehigh University Chapter President of Sigma Xi. Dr. Pamukcu currently serves on the faculty of the Martindale Center for the Study of Private Enterprise at Lehigh University, and as both a co-PI and co-director of Lehigh NSF-ADVANCE.
Teaching
Dr. Pamukcu teaches courses in Geotechnical Engineering and Geo-environmental Engineering at the undergraduate level; and Advanced Foundation Engineering and Soil Dynamics at the graduate level. She has supervised five completed Ph.D. student dissertations, more than 25 completed M.S. student theses, and served on more than 16 doctoral dissertation committees. Some of the former Ph.D. students are now faculty members at national and international institutes, including Widener University and Cleveland University in the US, and Anadolu University in Turkey.
