M.Eng. in structures students awarded industry scholarships

Lehigh’s Masters of Engineering in Structural Engineering Program awarded more than $76,000 in named scholarships to eight members of the M.Eng. Class of 2015. The students received their awards at the program’s annual design project progress presentation and scholarship award luncheon, held December 5.

The program’s Industry Advisory Council (IAC) has funded seven of the scholarships since Lehigh began offering the professional master’s degree in 2008. IAC firms reflect the depth and breadth of the structural engineering profession, including structural engineers, forensic engineers, construction managers, fabricators, and software developers.

A scholarship supported by M.Eng. in Structural Engineering alumni was established in 2012.

The IAC figures prominently in the program’s mission of preparing students for professional practice. In addition to subsidizing scholarships, the Council guides the program by assisting with the group design project selection, critiquing student presentations, providing mentoring and externship opportunities to students, and serving as seminar speakers.

“The scholarships that we are able to award through the generous support of the IAC and alumni allow us to attract top students to our program,” says Jennifer Gross, professor of practice and director of the M.Eng. in structural engineering program. “Our students are grateful for the valuable opportunities they have to interact with the IAC throughout the year.”
