Aspirational young engineers prepare to change the world

 

ChuHard hats off to structural engineering graduate students Xin Chu (pictured), You Dong, Aman Karamlou, Samantha Sabatino and Georgios Tsampras, all of whom recently completed the first level of the teacher development program at Lehigh. The program is offered jointly through the Office of Graduate Student Life and the Faculty Development Program.

By participating in the program, these five aspiring instructors have gained an improved understanding of college-level teaching and demonstrated a commitment to the importance of professional development.

 

Doctoral QuartetLehigh’s doctoral program in geotechnical engineering represented well in a recent issue of Geostrata magazine. The January/February 2015 issue featured an article written by (pictured from left) Lusu Ni ’14PhD, Yi Dong ’13PhD, Hai (Thomas) Lin and Suguang (Sean) Xiao.


The quartet profiled J. Carlos Santamarina, Ph.D., Ing., A.M.ASCE, (pictured center, above) who is the Goizueta Foundation Faculty Chair and professor at Georgia Institute of Technology and a leading authority in the fundamental study of soils and subsurface processes. The feature article appeared in the “Lessons Learned from GeoLegends” column.

 

ChuOn December 5, eight students in the Masters of Engineering in Structural Engineering Program received scholarships totalling more than $76,000. Each year, members of the M.Eng. Industry Advisory Council and program alumni come to campus to assess the students’ progress and personally award their generous scholarships.
