New Student Information

Welcome to the graduate program of the department of civil and environmental engineering! We wish you a rewarding and successful time here.

Plan to arrive in Bethlehem about a week before the semester begins. This will give you time to get acquainted with the area and your fellow students, and take part in two mandatory orientation events. Attendance is required at both sessions.

The University Orientation

The Graduate Student Life Office (GSL) provides information, referrals, advice, and consultation to graduate students throughout their Lehigh experience. Orientation introduces you to the many academic, technological, career-related, cultural and administrative resources that will guide you on your way. All CEE graduate students must attend the University/GSL orientation.
Other sessions required by the University and CEE department include:

  • Safety training for any student working in a lab as part of an assistantship
  • Test of Presentation and Speaking Skills (TOPSS) for international teaching assistants (TAs)

The GSL office will help you make arrangements for this training.

The Department Orientation

CEE’s welcome to the department covers introductions, registration, assignments of academic advisers, rules and regulations, and provides ample opportunity for Q&A.  The day ends with a departmental social hour for all faculty, staff and graduate students.

Look for a letter from the CEE graduate coordinator in June regarding orientation dates, registration, and financial aid information if applicable.

We look forward to seeing you then.
