Professor Antonio Prieto
A special section of Intermediate Spanish I limited to entering freshmen, this
course is designed for students who have achieved competency in Spanish
equivalent to the completion of Elementary Spanish II at Lehigh. This is
usually accomplished in three to four years of high-school Spanish. In this
course, we will review and expand basic grammar and vocabulary by focusing on
all four language skills -- listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
There will be frequent group work and interaction among students, so that
by the end of the semester, you will get to know a lot about your classmates,
all in Spanish!
Course materials
There will be one required textbook, which contains grammar explanations and
class activities, as well as cultural and background readings on the Hispanic
world. The accompanying workbook, which provides self-monitoring exercises,
will also be required.
Required assignments
In addition to assignments from the textbook, students will write short
compositions in Spanish, make brief oral presentations, as well as a final
group project. There are two in-class exams and a final exam in the course, as
well as short quizzes.
