Science in Science Fiction

 

First year course assessing the 'science' in science fiction.  The course will involve viewing films and video followed by student and/or instructor presentations which will provide an understanding of the techniques used and their limitations.  The course requires student presentations, written assignments and independent literature study.

Robert V. Skibbens, Ph. D. (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1994) uses budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism to study chromosome transmission, cell cycle progression and genome maintenance.
