| Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month directly following the departmental seminar! |
Here's where you'll find notes from meetings you missed!
September 13, 2007
1. Kandi gave an "official" BOGS welcome to the new grad students,
Mike Kearse and Candice Klingerman, who were in attendance. BOGS also
extends a warm welcome to Sam Rudra, our third new grad student.
2. Both of the speakers whom BOGS has invited have now accepted our
invitation.
3. Brad has requested an increase in our funding budget, but does not
yet know what our budget will be this year. A brainstorming session
for BOGS activities was held and the following is a list of
suggestions for how to spend our money this year:
Bowling at Sokols or Northside (Kandi will check on prices)
Tailgating at a football game
Corn Maze or Haunted Hay Ride (or both)
Dorney Park Halloweekends
Easter Egg Hunt (with prizes!)
Ice skating
snow tubing
St. Patrick's Day Happy Hour (mmm. . . green beer)
River cleanup (Brad is organizing this and he guarantees canoes
this time!)
Movie night (NOT a sleepover)
BOGS prom (Fisch will wear the pink dress)
Suggestions for BOGS field trips:
National Aquarium in Baltimore
Crayola Factory
PEZ museum in Easton (who knew?)
Philly Zoo
Franklin Institute
Yeungling Brewery tour (mmm. . . more beer)
4. The officers plan to make the educational mentoring committee an
official committee with an elected chairperson. Over the next few
weeks, the officers will be working to write an amendment to the
Constitution to achieve this. (Motion was made and seconded, voting
was unanimously in favor.) Be thinking about whether you would like
to chair this committee (Joe Leese, do your DUTY)!!
5. Miss Jen gave an update on the BOGS website
(www.lehigh.edu/~inbogs). She will be updating the website and she
needs your photos. She will also be adding a new alumni page where we
can access information about how our former grad students are doing.
We will be inviting alumni to our events as well.
6. Nominees were requested for two representatives of BOGS to be on
the Dean's Graduate Advisory Council. Ryan served on this council
last year and he spoke about what it entails. Matt Close and Brad
Pitt (I mean Walters) were nominated and have volunteered to represent
us this year.
7. The floor was opened for discussion and Matt C. suggested that
BOGS continue its fundraising activities this year. Kandi announced
that she is the Chair of the Entertainment Committee for the Relay for
Life 2008, so she assured us that BOGS WILL participate. Keep the 1st
and 2nd weekends in June open on your calendars to participate in the
poker run and the relay.
After that, all hell broke loose. There was a discussion of beer and
sausages. It wasn't pretty.
Those of you who weren't at the meeting missed a good one!
