"The
Holocaust Project: From Darkness into Light," an imaginative and controversial
art exhibit by internationally known artist Judy Chicago, with photography
by Donald Woodman, will be shown at Lehigh University's Zoellner Arts
Center February 9 through June 11, 2000.
The
artists use the Holocaust as a prism to view other victim experiences
and to explore the human condition in the modern world. While researching
the project, Judy Chicago began to perceive that "the unique experience
of the Holocaust could be window into an aspect of the unarticulated but
universal human experience of victimization. The problem was how to express
that while honoring the particularity of the Holocaust as a historical
event." The Lehigh showing is the first time this monumental multimedia work has visited the mid-Atlantic area. Admission is free. However, group tours must be scheduled in advance with the LU Art Galleries (610 758-6881). Children's
guided tours of the exhibit will be offered February 26, April 2, and
April 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Children must be ages 12 and up
and accompanied by an adult. Call 610 758-3615 to register. Gallery Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM; Sunday 1 to 5 PM.
