The
Pocono Comparative Lakes Program (PCLP) operates under the AEP and currently
maintains the core lake sampling program, community outreach programs,
meetings, seminars and workshops. Since 1988, the PCLP has maintained a
long-term monitoring program which includes baseline data on three "core
lakes" in the Poconos as well as data
collected
by two weather stations maintained by Lehigh at the Lacawac
Sanctuary. Graduate and undergraduate students gain significant "hands-on"
experience collecting data and building the computerized
database. Numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in EES currently
utilize the database in exercises designed to strengthen analytical and
interpretative skills. Data are also widely available for research by undergraduate
interns, graduate students, and faculty. A web site for the weather stations
is currently under construction. A data management committee coordinates
data collection and processing and maintains standards and protocols.
PCLP sponsored workshops provide an opportunity for Lehigh faculty and students to interact with scientists and students from around the world. Some of these meetings and seminars provide undergraduate research interns and graduate students with a forum to present and discuss their studies.
