The
Two buildings adjacent to the Lodge contain laboratory and general work
space. A house trailer installed by the Academy of Natural Sciences of
Philadelphia in 1971, and subsequently donated to the Sanctuary, is subdivided
into several small research spaces, including a wet laboratory with hood,
refrigerators and small growth chambers. The second floor of the
original Carriage House has been remodeled to include a small lecture room/laboratory
and a separate air-conditioned room for computers and delicate equipment.
During Lehigh's summer research program, a microcomputer LAN is installed
with several PC's, printers, and internet access. The first floor of the
Carriage House is used principally as a lecture hall (seating up to 150)
for Sanctuary programs. It also contains a small gift shop, as well as
two walk-in environmental chambers used by Lehigh researchers. The living
room in the Lodge provides a cheerful setting, especially on cool evenings
with a fire in the fireplace, for discussions or seminars. It seats up
to 20 or so people. The Lodge has a large screened in porch furnished with
benches and long worktables, often used by visiting field courses. The
Sanctuary maintains several rowboats as well as a couple of canoes on the
lake. Lehigh has a fiberglass Boston Whaler equipped with an electric outboard
motor.
