LEHIGH UNIVERSITY EQUIPMENT AND LAUNDRY OPERATIONS

FOOTWEAR POLICY
2002-2003

Our arrangement between the Athletic Department, Nike, Inc. and Bethlehem Sporting Goods has been extended to supply athletic footwear to travel squad student athletes during the 2002-2003 academic year. The footwear is being purchased at a discount price arranged by Nike and Bethlehem Sporting Goods. All funds for purchasing the footwear are provided through athletic development efforts. As an added feature of this arrangement, all students, faculty and staff who possess a Lehigh picture I.D. card may purchase Nike footwear from Bethlehem Sporting Goods at 20% off the normal retail price. Footwear may be purchased for friends and family as long as the purchaser presents his or her I.D. card and makes the purchase.  The discount is as good as may be available anywhere else and is offered for the entire academic year.

The following are guidelines for athletic personnel and student-athletes to follow:

1) One(1) pair of athletic footwear will be provided to each Patriot League travel squad student-athlete per year. The equipment manager will obtain shoe sizes of travel squads to facilitate proper ordering of shoes.

2) The student-athlete, coach and equipment manager will discuss the model of shoe to be purchased for each upcoming season.

3) Bethlehem Sporting Goods will order extra sizes to compensate for freshman, transfers and wrong sizes. If sizing of shoes is still not sufficient, every effort will be made to get the correct size for the student-athlete.

4) Each shoe received by the student-athlete is to be used for games, and if needed, practice. Shoes given to the student-athletes may not be exchanged (other than for sizing problems), re-sold or given to someone else.

5) No other shoe manufacturer may be substituted using department funding. Nike is the only footwear that will be purchased for Lehigh student-athletes (complimentary contracts are still in force with other manufacturers and may be continued in the 2002-2003 year). Money will not be substituted for shoes. If a student-athlete refuses footwear given, then no footwear will be provided. If the model presented does not fit the student-athlete accordingly, the equipment manager and if needed, sports medicine, will determine the correct footwear that is needed.

6) Student-athletes leaving the team during the season for any circumstance must return his or her footwear to the equipment manager. Failure to do so will result in a bill from the Bursar's Office.

7) Any shoe that presents a fitting problem or becomes defective during the season should be brought to the equipment manager IMMEDIATELY. A determination will be made as to what action should be taken.

8) Times and dates will be established by the equipment manager and coach for the distribution of footwear at the beginning of the season.

9) All questions, comments and suggestions to this program should be submitted to the equipment manager.
