Peer Tutoring at Lehigh

The Center is dedicated to providing high-quality peer tutoring
services to our undergraduate students.

  • The Center offers tutoring in many introductory and 100-level courses. If we do not have a tutor for a course in which you need assistance, we will do our best to find you a tutor for that course. We can not guarantee a tutor, though, and there are a few courses for which tutoring typically isn't offered. The Center does not provide tutoring in 200 or 300-level courses.

  • The Center accepts tutor requests beginning the 2nd week of classes through the 11th week of classes. We can not accommodate requests made after the 11th week of classes. Students are encouraged to work closely with their professors and TA's if they are having difficulty with course material.

  • The Center provides up to two (2) hours of free tutoring per week in up to two (2) courses each semester. Tutoring in additional courses or for more than 2 hours weekly may be requested by the tutee for a small fee.

  • In order to receive tutoring, students must register with the Center by filling out a Tutor Request Form at the beginning of each new semester and must also sign the Tutee Contract.

  • Every tutee is expected to: attend class, complete all class assignments, take advantage of professor office hours, and come prepared for tutoring sessions with his/her tutor.

About Our Tutors

Lehigh's tutors are a select group of undergraduate and graduate students who are chosen for their academic excellence and their interpersonal skills. Our tutors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 and a B+ or better in each course they tutor. In addition, each tutor must be recommended by a professor, and all tutors are required to attend training sessions conducted by the Center.

Individual Tutoring

The Center provides a limited amount of individual tutoring each semester. When an individual tutor is available, the Center will assign the tutee to the available tutor via email, and the tutor will contact his/her tutee to set up an initial tutoring session. We encourage tutees to set up weekly one-hour sessions with their tutors.

Group Tutoring

Because demand for tutoring is high in many of our core introductory and 100-level courses, the Center provides group tutoring to students needing academic assistance in these courses. Group tutoring sessions are usually attended by four to six students and are between two and three hours in length. Groups meet once a week in a set location determined by the Center for the duration of the semester. Groups are led by experienced student tutors who have demonstrated superior interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to assisting students academically. The Center Director carefully selects each group tutor and then works very closely with him/her during the semester in order to help monitor group attendance and track the progress of each tutee within the group. Students in a tutoring group benefit not only from a knowledgeable and experienced tutor but also from the opportunity for discussion and collaboration with their peers in the group.

There are a few groups each semester that are run by our Graduate Assistant Tutors. The Center's GA Tutors have been hired for their mastery of the subject matter, their excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and their strong teaching and tutoring backgrounds. These special groups will be larger than our peer tutoring groups, usually between 8-10 students, but our GA Tutors are available to give extra/individual attention to their tutees during regularly scheduled office hours.

Whether tutoring is offered individually or in a group, the Center is committed to working closely with each student and doing our best to meet his/her needs within our resources!
