About Our TutorsLehigh's tutors are a select group of undergraduate and graduate students who are chosen for their academic excellence and their interpersonal skills. Our tutors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 and a B+ or better in each course they tutor. In addition, each tutor must be recommended by a professor, and all tutors are required to attend training sessions conducted by the Center. Individual TutoringThe Center provides a limited amount of individual tutoring each semester. When an individual tutor is available, the Center will assign the tutee to the available tutor via email, and the tutor will contact his/her tutee to set up an initial tutoring session. We encourage tutees to set up weekly one-hour sessions with their tutors. Group TutoringBecause demand for tutoring is high in many of our core introductory and 100-level courses, the Center provides group tutoring to students needing academic assistance in these courses. Group tutoring sessions are usually attended by four to six students and are between two and three hours in length. Groups meet once a week in a set location determined by the Center for the duration of the semester. Groups are led by experienced student tutors who have demonstrated superior interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to assisting students academically. The Center Director carefully selects each group tutor and then works very closely with him/her during the semester in order to help monitor group attendance and track the progress of each tutee within the group. Students in a tutoring group benefit not only from a knowledgeable and experienced tutor but also from the opportunity for discussion and collaboration with their peers in the group. There are a few groups each semester that are run by our Graduate Assistant Tutors. The Center's GA Tutors have been hired for their mastery of the subject matter, their excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and their strong teaching and tutoring backgrounds. These special groups will be larger than our peer tutoring groups, usually between 8-10 students, but our GA Tutors are available to give extra/individual attention to their tutees during regularly scheduled office hours.
