To Request a Tutor
- Download and print a copy of the Tutor Request Form (2 pages). You may also come to the Center,4th floor of the UC, to pick up a request form. Fill out the form and get it signed by the professor of the course in which you are requesting tutoring. Be sure to read the Tutee Contract very carefully and sign and date it. (Reminder: we do not offer tutoring in 200 and 300-level courses! For a list of courses for which we most commonly provide tutoring, click here)
- Bring the completed Tutor Request Form with your professor's signature
to the Center. One of our staff members will make sure that you've read your responsibilities and have signed the form.
- If we have an available tutor, you will be assigned to him or her via email soon after completing the above paperwork. You should receive your tutor assignment within one week of submitting your request. If a tutor is not currently available, we will inform you via email and try to find a tutor for you. Please be aware that this can sometimes be a lengthy process. (Note: you may request a specific tutor, but we will not hire someone to tutor you if we already have qualified and trained tutors available on staff!)
- After receipt of your assigment, your tutor will contact you to arrange an initial tutoring session. If you do not hear from your tutor within 5 days of receiving your assignment, please contact us at intutor@lehigh.edu
(Note: You are also free to go ahead and contact your tutor!!)
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you experience any difficulties
at all during this process! We are here to help you!
Because of the high demand for tutoring in some
courses, individual tutoring is not always available! |

Tutors are provided on a first-come first served basis
beginning the 2nd week of each semester. As the semester progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to recruit and hire qualified tutors. For this reason, we are less likely to be able to accommodate requests made later in the semester! |
| |
Our deadline to accept tutor requests is Friday of the 11th week of classes. We can not accept requests made after this date. |
Tips for Successful Tutoring |
| 1. Prepare for your tutoring session. Go to class, review your notes, do the homework; the more you've done before your tutoring session, the more productive it will be! |
| 2. Communicate with your tutor. Talk about expectations and set some ground rules for your tutoring sessions. Be specific about what's giving you trouble and how you learn best. Be sure to share your syllabus and talk to your tutor about important assignments and exams well in advance so you can plan ahead. |
| 3. Be an active learner. Don't just sit and listen during your tutoring sessions! Ask questions, do sample problems, draw diagrams and explain course concepts in your own words. |
| 4. Check your expectations. Though peer tutors have excelled in the courses they tutor, they will not have all the answers! Remember that course content and instructors change frequently, and your tutor may not have learned every topic that you are covering in the course. |
| 5. Seek help from your professors and TAs. They are the best resource when you are having trouble in a course and they are here to help you! |
Tutoring is most effective when used on a regular weekly basis for the length of the semester. We encourage all students to meet with their tutors every week! |
