Looking for part-time work on campus?
Want a rewarding job with flexible hours?
....Become a Tutor for fall 2008
While tutoring is probably one of the more challenging jobs on campus, we believe that it is also one of the most rewarding! Tutors are needed every new academic year in many introductory and 100-level courses in MATH, PHY, CHM, ENGR, ECO and BUS. While hours are extremely flexible, tutors should be willing to tutor for a minimum
of four (4) hours per week and to commit to a semester-long experience.
For Fall 2008, we anticipate a need for tutors in the following courses:
CHM 25, 31, 51
PHY 10, 21
MECH 003
MATH 75, 76, 21, 205
ECO 146
ECO 001, 129
FIN 125

*NOTE* At the start of the semester, we do NOT anticipate a need for tutors in MATH 22, 23, ACCT 151, 152 and ECO 145!
Tutor Qualifications
Lehigh's tutors are a select group of undergraduate and graduate students who are chosen for their ability to assist their peers academically and for their strong interpersonal and communication skills. Tutors are recommended by faculty and undergo training offered by the Center. Other qualifications include:
- a cumulative GPA of 2.8 and a B+ or better in the course (undergrad applicants)
- completion of at least one successful semester at Lehigh (undergrad applicants)
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- excellent time management and study skills
Tutor Responsibilities
Lehigh's tutors are expected to make a commitment to tutoring for the length of the semester. They will be asked to follow all Center procedures and to keep the hourly limitations we've put in place for both individual and group tutoring. Tutors will be expected to communicate with their tutees in a timely manner, complete all necessary paperwork, be professional, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to Lehigh's policies regarding academic integrity. It is the role of Lehigh's tutors to help their peers become successful, independent learners.

HIRING TIMELINE FOR FALL 2008
- Attend the TUTOR INFORMATION SESSION.
Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm in the Center, UC 4th floor.
- Print a Tutor Application and Recommendation (see link above) and submit completed applications to the Center for Academic Success, UC 4th floor. Applications will be accepted through the end of spring '08 and during the first 3 weeks of fall '08. (Incomplete applications will not be considered!) Get your application in as early as possible!
- After submitting your completed application, you will be contacted by a Center staff member to schedule a mandatory interview. The interveiw will last about 20 min and will take place with the Center Director. This interview may occur spring 08, though most interviews will occur during the first week of classes fall 08. Following your interview, we will notify you of your hiring status and send you all necessary information.
- At the beginning of fall semester, all newly hired tutors will attend a mandatory New Tutor Orientation Session before beginning tutoring. Tutors will be sent a copy of our electronic tutor handbook prior to the Orientation Session.
- All necessary payroll paperwork will also be completed at the beginning of fall semester. If you have never worked on campus before or if at the beginning of fall semester it's been more than six months since your last pay check from Lehigh, you will need to fill out W4 and I9 forms (Note: the I9 requires a driver's licence and social security card OR U.S. passport, so please plan to bring these documents to campus with you when you return in the fall.) All International Students need to visit the International Students and Scholars Office in Coxe Lab to fill out payroll forms.
- After completing paperwork and attending orientation, you are ready to begin tutoring. Please note that most new tutors will remain "on-call" until we receive a significant amount of requests in the course(s) in which you are qualified to tutor. (Demand in some courses is low early on in the semester, and experienced returning tutors are given assignments first whenever possible.) We can not guarantee that you will get tutoring hours or that you will get as many hours you want, though most new tutors will.
