Peer Tutoring at Lehigh

The Center is dedicated to providing high-quality peer tutoring services to our undergraduate students.

• The Center offers group tutoring in many introductory and 100-level courses in Phy, Chm, Math, Acct, Eco, Engr and Bus. The Center does not provide tutoring in 200 or 300-level courses.

• Prior to requesting a tutor, we recommend that students meet with their professors to discuss any difficulties they are having in their courses. A student can request tutoring in up to two courses per semester.

• Group assignments will be given on a first-come first-served basis, and students should be aware that we may not have the resources to accommodate all tutoring requests, especially those made later in the semester.

• Students are expected to attend class, complete all class assignments, take advantage of professor and TA office hours, and come prepared for tutoring sessions with his/her tutor.

Group Tutoring

The majority of our tutoring is offered in small groups consisting of 6-8 students. Students are assigned to a group and will meet with the same group for about 2 hours per week in a set location determined by the Center for the duration of the semester. Groups are led by student tutors who posess excellent interpersonal skills and have demonstrated a strong commitment to assisting students academically. Students in a tutoring group benefit not only from a knowledgeable and experienced tutor but also from the opportunity for discussion and collaboration with their peers in the group.

Individual Tutoring

Individual, or 1-on-1 tutoring, is offered only in the following situations: 1) for most CSE courses 2) for some language courses (French, JPNS, etc) 3) for courses with a low demand for tutoring 4) for students who have time conflicts and cannot attend one of our groups and 4) for students with referals from a faculty member or academic support staff member.

The Center is committed to working closely with each student and doing our best to meet his/her needs within our limited resources. If your tutoring assignment is not working out for you, no matter what the reason, please let us know so we can help!
