Alcohol use and abuse, its historical function in society, moral entrepreneurship, status struggles and conflict over alchol.  Current problems with attention to special population groups and strategies for prevention of alcohol abuse.

Drinks, Drugs, and Do-Gooders, SSP 373
Alcohol and other drugs are addressed from several perspectives--social historical and sociological, pharmological and legal--while evaluating their use on one's health and social functioning.  Special attention is paid to social control efforts and the growing role of drugs, legal and illegal in our society.
