GREG REIHMAN - CLASSES In this course, we will read two works by Hegel (the Phenomenology of Spirit and Reason in History) and several by Nietzsche (including On the Genealogy of Morality and Twilight of the Idols). My goals for the class are simple: I hope you will read all of the texts carefully; that you will come to see them as complex yet understandable, important yet flawed, frustrating yet rewarding; that you will find many interesting and intelligent things to say about them; that you will acquire a good general sense of the major philosophical ideas at work in nineteenth century Europe; and that you you will be a better philosopher at the end of the semester than you were at the start. I recommend you pick up the following texts. Please read the Preface and the Introduction of the Phenomenology prior to our first class. (Friday, Jan 22nd).
