Subject: Talbot Workshop Announcement, for topology list From: jnkf@math.mit.edu Date: 03 Oct 2006 19:16:24 -0400 2007 TALBOT WORKSHOP: TOPOLOGICAL MODULAR FORMS March 25 - 31, 2007 North Conway, New Hampshire This posting announces the 2007 Talbot Workshop, Topological modular forms, mentored by Michael Hopkins. The workshop will constitute a weeklong retreat with talks and organized discussions during the mornings and evenings; the afternoon schedule will be kept clear for informal discussions and collaborations. The talks will involve, but not be limited to, the construction and basic properties of the spectrum TMF and its relations to derived algebraic geometry, the Witten genus and string cobordism, classical modular forms and lattices, and homotopy groups of spheres. The workshop discussions will have an expository character and will be aimed at advanced graduate students and junior faculty interested this area. Further information about the workshop will become available at: http://www-math.mit.edu/~jnkf/talbot This website also contains information about the past Talbot workshops: Automorphisms of manifolds (mentored by Michael Weiss), The geometric Langlands program (mentored by David Ben-Zvi), and Geometric models of elliptic cohomology (mentored by Stephan Stolz). If you may be interested in participating and would like to receive future communications about the workshop, please email Andre Henriques (henrique@math.uni-muenster.de). Thanks to an NSF grant, we expect to be able to subsidize participants' travel and lodging expenses. Please note that the number of participants will be strictly limited.
