Subject: Araki From: "W. Stephen Wilson" Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2005 09:30:22 -0400 (EDT) >From Atsushi Yamaguchi in Japan: ******************* Shoro Araki died on July 11th, 16:57 at the age of 75 (he was born on Jan. 28 in 1930). His wife died nine years ago by stomach cancer. He has two sons, one daughter and one grandson. They say that he was ill seriously since the end of the last year. ******************* I delayed sending this in hoping that I could get a more extended obituary quickly. It looks like that will take some time so I thought I'd better pass this along. In 1980 I took my Sloan Fellowship and just announced to the Japanese that I was coming to visit. I wanted to meet all the big names I knew of. Shoro Araki and Zen-ichi Yosimura at Osaka City University took me in. It was their hospitality that led to my love of Japan. Shoro Araki was a very special person. Steve W.
