Subject: Position at University of California, Riverside Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 12:51:27 -0700 From: Reinhard Schultz Announcement to the Algebraic Topology Discussion Group: JUNIOR FACULTY POSITION AT UC RIVERSIDE The Mathematics Department of University of California at Riverside has been authorized to search for a junior appointee in topology, specifically including algebraic topology. This is a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level for a new Ph. D. or (more likely) someone with a couple of years' experience. The usual comments about high standards for research and teaching apply. The position should be posted with the AMS soon if this has not already been done. There is a possibility for upgrading this position to an associate professorship with tenure for a candidate with exceptional merit. During the seven years I have been here, the Riverside campus has grown at an extremely fast pace, and the hirings this year are part of continuing plans for increasing the size and strength of the Department. For the record, Riverside is about 55 miles east of Los Angeles and 35 miles east of Anaheim, just a little south of San Bernardino and somewhat west of Palm Springs; it lies in a rapidly growing portion of the Greater Los Angeles area and has decent but non-astronomically priced housing. PLEASE NOTE: This summer I stepped down as Department Chairman, so I am not involved with the administrative aspects of this search. The office staff member in charge of faculty personnel matters (Adele LaPorta) can be contacted at adele@math.ucr.edu; of course, if someone has general questions I am willing to discuss them or redirect them as appropriate. Please pass this along to any topologist who might be interested. Thanks very much!! Reinhard Schultz
