Subject: Question about normal bundle

It is apparently fairly well known that if n is even and
not equal to 2, 4 or 8, then S^{n-1}\times S1 embeds smoothly
in R^{2n-1} with a nontrivial normal bundle (namely, the
pullback of the tangent bundle for S^n).  I remember hearing
this in a conversation around 1970.  Does anyone have a 
published reference for this result in the literature?  Thanks
for any leads on this.
