In an attempt to stem the steady stream of articles that still
reference "Hopkins, Kuhn, Ravenel, various preprints since the mid
80's", I'd like to point out to the topology community that our article
has now appeared:

Generalized group characters and complex oriented cohomology theories
Michael J. Hopkins; Nicholas J. Kuhn; Douglas C. Ravenel
J. Amer. Math. Soc. 13 (2000), 553-594.

This is in the July issue of JAMS, but is already available online at
http://www.ams.org/jams.

A lot of care was put into this final version. To the extent that I
know, all desirable features of previous versions were retained, and
key points accurately referenced.  There is also a subsection on the
project's history, with names and dates (and excuses).

So... please use this as your reference to HKR, and, if you do, perhaps
even read this final draft.
