Candidates should have a PhD in Mathematics or Statistics, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to quality teaching, research activities, and academic service. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement those of current faculty. Areas of particular interest are algebra, wavelets, and statistics; however all qualified candidates will be considered. Sam Houston State is located in historic Huntsville, one quarter of the way from Houston to Dallas, and at the boundary between the Piney Woods region of East Texas and the Prairies and Lakes region of Central Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 13,000 and a faculty of 500. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 23 tenure-track faculty positions (20 mathematics, 3 statistics). The degrees offered in Mathematics include the MS, MA, BS, and BA. A PhD in Mathematics Education is currently in the planning stages.
