From: John Hunton Date: Monday, April 10, 2000 12:40 PM Subject: Re: advert again UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE Lectureship in Pure Mathematics (Ref: A5352l) Applications are invited for an open-ended Lectureship (Grade B) in Pure Mathematics. Applicants should have a strong research record in some branch of Pure Mathematics. This position is part of an ongoing and significant investment by the University; it follows the recent appointment of Professor Steffen Koenig and will be followed next year by three further lectureships in Pure Mathematics (Grade A). Applications are encouraged from all areas of Pure Mathematics, though preference may be given to applicants whose research is related to the research of the existing group. The post is tenable from 1 September 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Pure Mathematics group is currently interested in various parts of algebra and topology and on the relations between these areas and with other parts of mathematics. Research includes topics in Hochschild and cyclic cohomology theories, K-theory, structures and representations of groups and algebras, stable and unstable module/homotopy categories, quantum groups, preprojective algebras, C* algebras and dynamical systems. The group is active in running both national and international research meetings, is a participant and an organiser of a number of national collaborative seminars supported by the London Mathematical Society and is linked to several EU supported networks. Leicester is ideally placed for close interaction with many other leading UK Universities; Warwick, Oxford, Cambridge, London, Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester and Birmingham all lie within easy daily travelling distance. Further details about the position, as well as information on the Department and its research, can be found on the web pages at http://www.mcs.le.ac.uk/. Applications, together with the names and addresses of three persons to whom reference may be made, should be forwarded to reach the Personnel Office (Academic Appointments) not later than 12 MAY 2000.
