Subject: Postdoc position From: "Berrick A J" Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2007 13:31:24 +0800 Postdoc position There will be a postdoctoral fellowship available at National University of Singapore (NUS) for the academic year 2007-08, with posibility of extension for one or two more years on a competitive basis. Funding (S$70K = US$45K = EUR35K) comes from Jon Berrick's research grant, so the fellow is expected to have overlapping research interests with either Jon or his colleague Jie Wu. Areas of common interest include links between homotopy theory and braid groups (and/or related groups such as automorphism groups of free groups, mapping class groups). Via the plus-construction, there are also links to K-theory. For further details of the research of Jon and Jie, see http://www.math.nus.edu.sg/~matberic/ http://www.math.nus.edu.sg/~matwujie/ It is likely that other topologists/K-theorists will be visiting NUS during the year. In particular, there will be an international program on braids at NUS from May to July 2007 http://www.ims.nus.edu.sg/Programs/braids/index.htm so the fellowship could start at that time if preferred. For those who are impressed by such things, NUS again appeared in the top twenty in this month's Times Higher Educational Supplement ranking of universities worldwide, reflecting a positive research environment. The position may include light teaching duties. Please indicate your interest by emailing Jon at berrick@math.nus.edu.sg The position will be filled as soon as possible after 31 January, 2007.
