Subject: Question on eversions From: hrm@math.mit.edu (Haynes Miller) Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2007 09:57:04 -0400 (EDT) I'm giving a talk to an undergraduate audience about immersions and the eversion of the 2-sphere. If I understand Smale correctly, the space of immersions of S^2 into R^3 is connected but its fundamental group infinite cyclic - so there are countably many distinct eversions. Is this right? How many classes are represented by the various available visualizations? Is there a visualization on the web of a generating regular isotopy of the standard embedding to itself? Haynes Miller
