Subject: Atiyah on symmetric powers Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2001 20:31:44 -0800 From: Greg Kuperberg Re Yuli Rudyak's question on symmetric powers: In the arXiv article math.AT/0012215, Michael Atiyah (!) opens a new chapter in the study of the the deleted symmetric power of R^3, i.e., the configuration space of n distinct points. If you consider ordered points rather than unordered ones, there is a group action of S_n and the quotient space is of course the deleted symmetric power. Atiyah has some interesting results on the equivariant cohomology. -- /\ Greg Kuperberg (UC Davis) / \ \ / Visit the Math ArXiv Front at http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/ \/ * All the math that's fit to e-print *
