Membership in the Society for the Study of American Women Writers entitles individuals to a number of means, formal and informal, to interact with other scholars interested in this field of study.

Benefits include: The official journal of the SSAWW, Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers. Members of SSAWW who wish to subscribe to Legacy will receive a 20% discount on the journal's annual rates.

Manuscript submissions to the journal should be submitted by email to: LEGACY-editor@ucsd.edu. Direct inquiries to LEGACY-editor@ucsd.edu. Please follow the submission guidelines as detailed in the journal or on the journal's website.

Society Newsletter: All members of the SSAWW will receive a biannual Newsletter, which will update members on events, issues, and concerns of interest to scholars of American Women Writers.

Conferences: One of the primary goals of the SSAWW is to hold periodic (probably every three years) conferences to bring together scholars of American Women Writers. The conferences will follow the mission statement of the Society and represent the rich diversity of authors, texts, and contexts in the field of American Women Writers. We are currently planning our third conference, which will be November 8-11, 2006, in Philadelphia. Members will receive updated information about the conference as it is developed and will be the first to receive information about session and paper proposals.

Website, Listserv: The listserv will be expanded to address issues related to American women's writings and cultural contexts from the seventeenth through twentieth centuries. The current archival materials will also be expanded to include a fuller representation of American Women Writers of those centuries, and we will be establishing a Syllabus Resource on the website for teaching American Women Writers.

The site will also include a Directory of scholars in the field and their specific areas of interest.

Anyone interested in volunteering to maintain a section of the website should contact Dawn Keetley, Vice-President of the SSAWW. (dek7@lehigh.edu)

Affiliated Societies: Any existing Society or Group is welcome to request affiliation with the Society of American Women Writers. Affiliated Societies will be invited to host a session at the SSAWW conferences, and the President (or a representative) of any Affiliated Society will receive a free issue of the SSAWW Newsletter.

For more information on receiving Affiliated Society status, please contact SSAWW President, Karen Kilcup at academic@karenkilcup.org.
