SUMMARY OF THE 64TH ANNUAL
LEHIGH VALLEY AUDUBON SOCIETY
CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT

 

  Our 2007 Christmas Bird Count was held on Saturday, December 15.  We had wonderful weather, and the birding was fantastic.  We recorded 91 species, (topping the 89 of 2004) totaling 58,572 individual birds.

  Record numbers for 12 species were established (previous high).  Cackling Goose 2 (1), Snow Goose 15,254 (3,466), Northern Harrier 13 (11), Bald Eagle 3 (2), Red-bellied Woodpecker 169 (166), Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 38 (30), Pileated Woodpecker 10 (7), Tufted Titmouse 558 (555), Carolina Chickadee 91 (25), Winter Wren 14 (12), Savannah Sparrow 14 (12), Lincoln’s Sparrow 2 (1).

  Next year the count date will be Saturday, December 20, 2008.  Count information, and results from 1900 to the present are available through National Audubon’s website: www.audubon.org/bird/cbc.
