 Description

Shark Report is a web-based science activity that can be used by biology students grades 9-12.  This activity will engage students in using the 5 essential features of inquiry (develop scientifically oriented questions, use evidence to draw conclusions and make explanations, evaluate their conclusions based on alternative conclusions, and communicate their proposals).

This activity gives the learner  a journalist role who is assigned to report on a very recent shark attack incident.  The student will have to collect and record data, and evaluate research in order to develop the final front page article.  A Front Page template and Rubric are supplied for student and instructor use.

Prior to engaging students in this activity, it is suggested that the teacher prints out the Notepad handout or provides several sheets of paper to act as the "journalists' notepads."  The students will need the data collected in these pages to write their reports.  The "notepads" may or may not be used for assessment.  An Answer key is provided if notes are used as assessment.

Suggestions and comments are welcome.  Please feel free to email.
