Welcome!

About Me

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in finance and economics at Lehigh University, and expect to complete my degree in May 2010. Currently, I am on the job market and will be available for an interview at the FMA meeting in Reno, Nevada in October and at the AFA/AEA meetings in Atlanta, GA in January, 2010. My research interests are in corporate finance, corporate governance, financial markets and institutions, and international finance. My dissertation focuses on the different aspects of financial development across countries, and my dissertation advisors are Geraldo Vasconcellos and Parveen Gupta.

The first chapter of my dissertation investigates the impact of financial development and ICT (information and communications technology) on economic growth in an environment of macroeconomic structural reforms. The second chapter of my dissertation explores the dynamic long-run relationship among financial development, ICT, and GDP per capita in a panel cointegration framework. Specifically, the paper examines a sample of 86 countries over the period from 1991 to 2006. Until now, I have presented my research at the Southwestern Finance Association Annual Meetings (Oklahoma City, February, 2009), Eastern Economic Association Annual Meetings (New York, February - March, 2009), at the Midwest Economic Association Annual Meetings, and at the Eastern Finance Association 2009 Annual Meetings (Washington, D.C., April - May, 2009), at the Academic Symposium of Lehigh University (April, 2009). Finally, I will also present my research during the fall seminar at the University of New Haven, CT, and at Villanova University, PA.

Besides my dissertation research, I work on a paper that examines the impact of government intervention on corporate governance. This study uses a large sample of companies from 14 European Union countries between 2003 and 2008. Moreover, I work on a paper that combines the corporate governance, financial development and legal system literature streams to explore their effects on firm performance. In particular, the study investigates whether firm performance is enhanced with a governance structure that takes into account the continuous changes in the host country’s financial development and legal system.

Another paper that is part of my research agenda investigates the effect of corporate governance on the banking system. The study focuses on European Union countries that have harmonized their banking regulations.

With respect to teaching, I served as a teaching assistant for Principles of Economics under the supervision of Professor Susan Zumas, and James Dearden, and Money, Banking and Financial Markets with Professor Anthony O'Brien. Moreover, I taught Money, Banking and Financial Markets and Principles of Economics at Lehigh University during the summers of 2009 and 2008. Currently, I am teaching two sections of Applied Microeconomics, which further enriches my teaching experience at Lehigh University.
